Have you ever struggled with the notion of worthiness?

Have you ever moments of heavy doubt when you truly believed that you were not worthy of success you have already seen or that you want in your business?

I want to take a moment and talk about an extremely powerful concept called confirmation bias.

Confirmation bias is when we look around at our environment and either consciously or unconsciously seek proof for something we believe.

As humans, this is something that we all do…

However, understanding how confirmation bias works and affects our business is THE KEY to getting rid of the limiting belief that we are not worthy of success!

Unlocking the Secret to Success

There is a powerful force that is playing under the surface of our minds that we don’t even realize is happening.

And sometimes, these forces really keep us from having the success that we desire in our business and in life.

I know the way that things like this work.

A lot of times, it’s so easy for us to not get the results we want in a small task….we have a bad day of reach outs and follow-ups…and look at it from such a negative point of view.

This negative thought pattern continues and perpetuates itself into something even bigger.  It evolves into having a large negative effect on if we actually we are or are not going to see success.

The first thing I want to acknowledge is that the mind really is such an incredible tool.

It allows us to look for only the things that we want to see!  This is CONFIRMATION BIAS!

Here are a few examples of how confirmation bias works:

  • You buy a red car. Now when you drive all you see are red cars. It’s not because they weren’t there before, but confirmation bias is now kicking in, and now you’re subconsciously starting to look for these things.
  • Maybe you and your spouse have decided to start trying for a baby, and all of a sudden pregnant women are EVERYWHERE!  That’s confirmation bias!
  • Perhaps in your business you don’t feel confident as a leader, and suddenly you begin noticing comments that you feel degrade your abilities.  That’s confirmation bias!

Your mind works the same way when it comes to every aspect of your life!

Here’s the problem a lot of us have.

We’re operating from ego, which will never allow us to be good enough.

Our egos will always have you comparing your worst qualities to other people’s best qualities.

If you have this underlying belief that we are not worthy of success or you’re not good enough, here’s what you’re going to do.  You’re going to go out and you’re going to find proof that that’s true!

We focus on the negative, and what we don't realize is that whatever we focus on, we attract more of that very thing in our life. You must stop looking for proof that you're not good enough and begin forcing yourself to look at the positive!

Confirmation bias will say, “See, told you.  The first time I worked hard, and I didn’t get the results I wanted.  I told you I’m not good enough!”

We focus on the negative, and what we don’t realize is that whatever we focus on, we attract more of that very thing in our life!

You must stop looking for proof that you’re not good enough and begin forcing yourself to look at the positive!

Here’s an important shift that all of you need to make:

You need to start from this fundamental belief:  God does NOT make junk.

The things that make you different are the very things that make you so special!

You need to acknowledge the miracle of your own existence and understand that each one of you does is capable and worthy of growing and running a successful business!

You have dreams for a reason.  You have a dream of a bigger and better life because you were created to make that dream a reality.

If we start from this belief, we begin to truly understand the concept of confirmation bias.

By simply changing our focus and the way that we look at things, you can force yourself to do this.

So, instead of looking for proof that you’re not worthy, that you don’t deserve success, force yourself to look for the evidence that you do.

The evidence has always been there.  You’re just not seeing it because you’re focused on the wrong things.

You need to start looking for the small wins.  What we tend to do is focus on the massive outcomes.  The money, the rank advancement. That’s not the way this works!

You must start looking for the small little examples, the little victories.  Because at the end of the day, the big wins are nothing more than an accumulation of the small little wins.

The reason why most people aren’t successful is because success is boring.

It’s not the Hollywood movie scene where you wake up one day and you’re now some overnight success.

It’s the grit and the grind and the daily persistence. The determination and the little wins add up to the success that everyone watching thinks you accomplished overnight.

You have to start acknowledging those things.  If you’re operating in a negative space and using confirmation against yourself, you say things like: “See, I’m not good enough.  I worked hard, first time I ever worked hard and committed myself and I still didn’t get what I want.  See, I told you!”

Let me give you a different way to look at it.

What if you became grateful?  What if you gave yourself credit, because for the first time in your life, you actually had the courage to play big and give it a try.

What if you said, “I’m grateful because I never follow through, but for the first time in my life I actually followed through and I did it!  I get that I didn’t get the results I wanted, but is that realistic for my first time playing big? I’m grateful for the fact that I did follow through and the old me would have never done that.  And I’m grateful that I showed up, did the work and gave it an honest try.”

You’re not where you need to be, but you’re acknowledging the fact that you’re becoming the person you need to be.

And this all begins with the idea that we are capable and worthy.

If you don’t have the results you want yet, it’s just because your skills and the execution of the tasks at hand are still developing.  You are growing. You are a work in progress. We all are!

It does NOT mean that you don’t deserve success.

You need to learn how to begin to celebrate those small little wins.  Start forcing yourself to see the things that you are doing that are a demonstration of your worthiness.

You will start attracting more of that stuff in your life.  You will start building that belief which will lead to more enthusiasm and confidence.  Over time, you’ll be amazed with what this can do in your life.

I want you to look back at the last 30 days and find proof that you deserve success!  Then let me know in the comments what you’ve found. Start looking for the small little things that you are doing to leverage this concept of confirmation bias in your favor!
